No one would even care if she died out here.
As for Shirley, she had nobody left except a sickly grandmother. Taking care of these two would be a piece of cake.
“Hey, country girl, are you scared?” Dennis grinned, looking like he was itching for a fight. “Tell you what. Just kneel and bow to me twice, and I’ll let this go.”
Olivia just watched Charlotte, her lips curling into a creepy little smile, her eyes shining with something cold and mean.
“Charlotte, what’s wrong? Scared? If you are, come over here and kneel!” Nancy spoke up, sounding a lot braver now that Dennis was backing her up.
The tension in the room was suffocating.
Everyone was waiting to see how Charlotte would calm Dennis down. Then, she looked away from Shirley, her eyes settling lightly on the cocky boy across from her.
Suddenly, her calm gaze went icy, a storm of anger flashing through her eyes. Her cool, quiet face twisted, fierce and unyielding.
“Time for lesson number two. You mess with me, I mess with you.”
Her words had barely left her lips when the water bottle in her hand flew straight at Dennis, hitting him hard in the face.
There was a loud smack, and Dennis, who was pretty tall and not exactly skinny, hit the floor.
He wasn’t totally out, but he looked dazed, his eyes rolling as he tried to process what just happened. It was clear he didn’t see that coming.
Holy crap. Did she really just hit him? Did she even know who Dennis’s dad was?
“Dennis, are you okay?” someone called, rushing over to help him up.
Charlotte didn’t move. She just grabbed another unopened water bottle from the table, twisted off the cap, and took a sip. Her face was. blank as she watched Dennis struggle to his feet, his face bruised and swollen. She inted at him,”
then turned to Shirley. “I wasn’t done with lesson two. Let’s keep going.”
“Payback comes double.”
Her voice was cold as glass. Then, before anyone could react, she hurled the second bottle.
This one smacked Dennis right in the mouth.
He screamed, bending over and clutching his lips. There wasn’t any

Everyone in the room was speechless.
Damn, was fierce. No way she
was just
some helpless pretty face.
If someone said she ran with the mob, they’d probably believe it.
“Got it now? Did you learn?” Charlotte let her arm fall lazily to her side, her sharp features shadowed by a cool, dangerous smile.
Shirley nodded, starstruck, her eyes glued to Charlotte. That water bottle throw was seriously badass.
But she couldn’t help worrying. Dennis was definitely going to want payback.
Right then, Dennis came back to his senses. He looked ready to explode, eyes wild as he charged at Charlotte like a furious lion.
“You hit me? I’ll kill you!”
Charlotte didn’t flinch. She just stood there, hands in her pockets, chin tilted up, a daring smile spreading across her face.
Dennis’s fist was about to land when a cold voice rang out from the doorway.
“Try touching Charlotte and see what happens.”
