“Charlotte, Ronald finally got what he deserved. He’s been kicked out of school.”
“I saw the announcement.” Charlotte tossed her backpack into her desk and leaned against the wall, reaching out to ruffle Shirley’s hair. “Feeling happy?”
Shirley nodded hard, her eyes lighting up with a smile before tears quickly blurred her vision. “Charlotte, I really don’t know how to thank you If it weren’t for her, she might have been bullied and wrongly accused forever. Charlotte was clearly a physics genius, but she’d insisted on giving Shirley money for tutoring, as if she needed the help.
“If you don’t mind, I’ll just pledge my whole life to you. I’ll take care of you forever!” Shirley blurted it out, too worked up to think straight.
Right then, two water bottles hit the floor with a loud thud. Andrew and Parrish had just walked in, and both of them froze, staring at the scene in front of them. The two girls, both pretty and sweet-looking, were gazing at each other like they were the only people in the world.
Parrish felt his heart skip a beat. He leaned in and whispered to Andrew, “Charlotte goes all out for Shirley… do you think she actually likes her?” But honestly, it looked way more like Shirley was the one with the crush.
When Andrew saw the big grin on Shirley’s face, his mind went blank and he turned pale. “Shirley, have you studied yourself silly?”
“No, no, you’ve got it all wrong!” Shirley snapped out of it, waving her hands frantically, her cheeks burning. “It’s not what you think! I was talking about the money for the practice tests. I can’t pay her back yet, so maybe someday in the future.”
Andrew finally relaxed and grabbed his water bottle, gulping down several mouthfuls. Once he’d cooled off, he sneaked a glance at Charlotte, who looked as cool and untouchable as ever. He shivered. Was it even possible for a normal person to win her over?
After evening study hall, Charlotte grabbed her bag and headed out the school gates. She spotted Anthony’s sports car waiting in its usual spot.
Just like always, Anthony was standing outside the car. The
second he saw her, he strode
and took her hand his movements smooth and familiar. “Tired?”
As he spoke, his chin brushed her forehead, his breath warm on her skin. It was
obvious he was teasing her, and not by accident.
Charlotte blinked slowly. “No, I’m good,” she said, her voice soft.
Anthony’s dark eyes narrowed, and he leaned in, his lips brushing her ear.
“Kenneth’s in the car,” he whispered.
Wait, what?
At that, Charlotte finally looked up from his arms, her eyes crystal clear as she peered into the car. Sure enough, Kenneth was sitting in the back seat his good-looking face set in a glare as he stared at them. He looked like someone whose favorite thing just got snatched away, mad but totally outmatched.
“Are you coming with me?” she asked Anthony.
He raised an eyebrow, nose brushing her ear, and lowered his voice. “You’re my girl. Who else would I go with?”
Charlotte’s lashes fluttered, and she couldn’t help feeling a little happy.
Inside the car Kenneth watched the two of them act like he wasn’t even there. He rolled down the window, scowling. “Anthony, can you have a little shame?” Watching him get all lovey dovey with his sister.rightin front of his face… did Anthony really think he could just get away with it?
