Chapter 196
“Cough, cough Robert got so worked up that he started coughing again.
Seeing this, Kevin’s eyes turned red. He quickly told someone to bring the medicine. “Dad, please, take your medicine first.”
Robert wiped his eyes and glanced at the dark medicine. He instantly frowned. “I already drank it this morning.”
Kevin didn’t let him get away with it. “You poured it out this morning. I saw you.”
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Robert’s face. He shot a quick look at Charlotte sitting beside him, then hurried to explain. “I did drink it. Don’t make me look bad in front of my granddaughter.”
The house staff could only watch, looking helpless. Robert really was getting more childish as he got older. He hated how bitter the medicine tasted and tried to sneakily dump it out every time. If it wasn’t for Kevin’s patience, he probably wouldn’t take it at all.
“I said I’m not drinking it. Take it away, take it away. Don’t let the smell bother Lottie.”
The room went quiet. No one knew what to do about Robert.
Just then, Charlotte finished wiping her hands and spoke up, her voice soft and clear. “Uncle, can I have the medicine?”
Kevin brightened immediately, thrilled to be called uncle. He handed the bowl to Charlotte right away. “Here you go, sweetheart. Be careful, it’s hot.”
Charlotte took the bowl, her pale fingers curling around the spoon as she stirred the dark liquid, unhurried. “Time for your medicine, Grandpa.”
Robert paused, surprised, then broke into a huge smile and obediently drank it all. The small bowl emptied in no time.
“Is that all? It doesn’t feel like enough. Give me another bowl.” Robert looked like he’d found something better than medicine. Charlotte was clearly more effective than any remedy.
After he finished the medicine,
Robert and Kevin kept Charlotte with them, chatting for a long while. They talked about her mother, then started introducing the family
Kenneth had two older brothers, one
off on a military mission, the other offon working as a forensic pathologist overseas. Both of their jobs were so secretive that they couldn’t be reached for now Kenneth’s mom, Samantha, had rushed home because of a family emergency. When she heard Lottie was back, she’d wanted to come home right away, but Kevin convinced her to wait until morning.
“You don’t need to recognize that scoundrel of a father! We’ve already got your room ready, Lottie. Why don’t you move in tonight?” Robert squeezed
Charlotte’s hand, tooking,
so happy at the thought of waking up every day to see his precious granddaughter.
Move back in?
Kenneth, who was peeling longan Kenneth, who was fruit, lifted his eyebrows and smirked, clearly enjoying the show? Anthony was still waiting outside. If Lottie said yes, Kenneth would definitely go out and rub it in He couldn’t beat Anthony, but hi grandpa was definitely not someone you wanted to mess with.
Hearing Robert’s invitation, Charlotte’s brows drew together in a small frown. She didn’t say anything, and Robert and Kevin immediately grew nervous.

“Lottie, did I do something wrong? Is it because of me
“No.” Charlotte shook her head, her voice gentle and polite. “Grandpa, I already have a place to stay. It’s safe, and close to school. I accept who I am, but I need some time to adjust.”
Moving in right now would be too much for her.
Hearing how calm and steady she sounded, Robert’s frown deepened. He clearly didn’t want her to leave.
“When I have time, or whenever you want to see me, I’ll come back. Anytime.”
Robert’s eyes lit up at her words, even though he still looked a little reluctant. He agreed.
Kenneth dropped his longan onto the table, his face full of shock and frustration. He just knew Anthony must have worked some kind of magic on Lottie.
