Chapter 475
Roger stood there for a long moment after the call ended, not moving an inch.
Kenneth finally managed to push down his anger and turned to him, his voice low and steady. “Don’t worry. Lottie has Anthony. With him in her corner, she’ll be okay.”
Roger ran a hand over his face, his brows drawn tight, his expression growing colder by the second. “What I’m worried about now… The Blair family must know what’s going on. I can’t help but wonder if they’ll change the way they see Lottie.”
Kenneth didn’t answer, just let the silence settle between them.
Meanwhile, Charlotte’s phone buzzed again before she could even set it down. She saw Patricia’s name flash on the screen. Her lashes trembled. She hesitated for a few seconds, her chest hollow, then swiped to answer.
“Grandma.” Her voice was gentle, but the roughness in it was hard to hide.
“Lottie Patricia’s voice was frantic on the other end. “I saw the news online.”
Charlotte’s fingers tightened around the phone. Her feelings were tangled, messy, all mixed up inside.
“Lottie, don’t be scared.” Patricia’s words came through loud and clear. “Sweetheart, it’s going to be alright. I know you. I know there’s no way you could have done any of that.”
Charlotte hadn’t said a thing yet, but her grandmother already trusted her completely. No questions asked.
A small, relieved smile touched Charlotte’s lips, softening the pallor of her cheeks. For a moment, it was like warmth seeped into her, melting away the cold that had settled in her bones.
“Grandma, I’m fine. I’m sorry I made you worry.”
“Lottie, just stay home for the next couple of days. I’ll find someone to take care of everything.”
Patricia had actually tried calling Anthony first, hoping not to upset Lottie. When she couldn’t get through, she realized he was on a plane for a business trip.
With something this big happening, Patricia could only imagine how scared Charlotte must be. Her voice softened even more Lottie, don’t look at the news online. Lavinia and I both know who you are. We’re not going to let any of this change how we see you.”
The thought of little Lottie being treated that way all those years ago made Patricia’s
blood boil. People who could do that… they weren’t even human.
“You’re family to us. That’s never going to change. Not now, not ever.”
Charlotte’s eyes stung. She pressed her lips together, trying to keep her emotions in check. “Thank you for believing in me and standing up for me Grandma I want to handle this myself, since I’m the one involved.”
Patricia’s heart ached, but she didn’t argue. “Alright, sweetheart. I trust you.”
Whoever was behind this, they were going to pay for what they’d done to Lottie. One way or another.
After the call, Charlotte scrolled
through her messages. Adonis had
texted her three minutes ago. The
message was simple and direct. Charlotte, we found Jesse. By this time tomorrow, you’ll see that
bastard for yourself.
Jackson had also messaged. Charlotte, the person who posted the video is smart. They used a virtual account. We can’t track them.
Charlotte glanced at the screen, her eyes cold and unreadable.
This was the same evidence Elizabeth had pulled together to bail Jesse out years ago. For it to turn up online now, after five years… it was almost too convenient.
Nine had left another message. Next time they post something new, we’ll track them down right away.
Jackson hesitated. There was more coming?
He’d thought the video was already bad enough. What had Charlotte gone through five years ago to be left with scars like these?
