Chapter 481
“Look after her?”
When Anthony said those words, the doctors exchanged worried looks, faces shadowed with concern. This girl was unbelievably lucky. Just one sentence from Anthony and everyone understood. From now on, no one would dare do anything to
her.
After finishing his instructions, Anthony reached out and gently patted Charlotte’s head. His voice was quiet. “You’re sick right now, so you need to work with the doctors. Take your medicine and get better, okay?”
Kids her age should be running around without a care in the world, not stuck in a place like this.
Charlotte looked up at him with red eyes, unable to get a single word out.
“Go back inside, and don’t go wandering around anymore,” he said. This was the rooftop. One wrong step and something terrible could happen.
Charlotte didn’t move. She still refused to let go, clutching his hand even tighter. Her long lashes were wet with tears as she stared at him, completely still. She looked so lost, so heartbreakingly alone, like the whole world had abandoned her.
Anthony watched her in silence for a few seconds, then spoke patiently. “I’ll come see you again.”
The moment he said that, Charlotte’s lifeless eyes lit up with hope. Quietly, she pulled her hand away, and almost automatically, she started to take off the coat he’d given her.
“Keep it on,” Anthony said, stopping her. He was just about to say something else when Hans’s voice called from across the rooftop. “Anthony, Patricia’s looking for you.”
“Okay.” Anthony answered, glancing at Charlotte one last time. His voice softened. “See you next time.”
After that, Anthony threw himself into a solid month of nonstop, high-stress work. By the time he finally had a break and remembered the little girl from the hospital, he found out she’d been discharged two weeks earlier. Apparently, her parents had transferred her to a better sanatorium.
They were the same person.
That explained why, the first time he met Lottie, there’d been a strange sense of familiarity.
He never knew she’d been framed, forced into a mental hospital. He never realized that when she held on to his hand, refusing to let go, she was desperately hoping he’d take her away. If he had taken herout of there, would Lottie have been spared everything that happened after?
But he didn’t take her. He left her behind.

The phone crunched in Anthony’s fist, the screen shattering, glass digging into his palm. Blood welled up, bright red against his skin.
“Anthony!”
Hans’s face went white as a sheet. “Somebody get a doctor!”
Hans had seen the photos online, watched the video of Charlotte swinging a stick and attacking a doctor, Suddenly, all those memories came rushing back. The little girl Anthony met by accident on the hospital rooftop all these years ago… that was Charlotte
But Anthony hadn’t taken her away. Charlotte had been set up. For someone who wasn’t sick, esmentat hospital would be unbearable to
wonder she was later sent out to the countryside.
Now Hans understood why Anthony was falling apart. The guilt, the regret, the self- blame it was a storm inside him.
Hans frowned, about to say something comforting, when a new email popped into his inbox. It was the complete file on what happened to Charlotte all those years ago.
They said it would take an hour, but it had arrived in under twenty minutes. The X Organization’s intelligence team was getting faster and faster.
Hans opened the email and started reading. His face twisted in shock and horror. The things Charlotte went through were just beyond words. Even he could barely stand to read it.
Especially what happened to her in that hospital.
Hans could only imagine what Anthony would do once he saw all this. The urge for revenge would be impossible to control.
