With Steven and Olivia hauled away, the CEO’s office went completely still. No one spoke for a few seconds.
Jackson finally stepped forward, his tone respectful. “Charlotte, your mother put up the money to start this company. Are you really going to declare bankruptcy?”
The company was in her hands now. If she wanted, she could keep it running.
Charlotte adjusted her baseball cap, her eyes flashing with irritation. “Anything they’ve touched just makes my skin crawl.” Her voice was calm but icy. “The bankruptcy goes ahead. As for the employees, anyone who wants to transfer to one of N Organization’s companies, make it happen. If they don’t want to, give them a generous payout.”
Everyone knew N Organization’s subsidiaries were top-tier, Fortune 500 material. Only a fool would turn down a spot.
Jackson nodded, impressed that she’d thought of everything. “Understood. Where to now, Charlotte?”
He wondered if the next step was to go after the people behind the online smear campaign.
“Home,” Charlotte said with a tired yawn, her lashes drooping. “Let Melissa stir things up all she wants. Olivia’s probably fueling the gossip online too. For now, just ignore them.”
Jesse would be landing in Cabinda tomorrow. She’d deal with all of it then.
A straight-A student from Vanguard High School. A spoiled socialite. By tomorrow,
both would be out of Cabinda, no question.

Charlotte stepped out of the shower, wrapped in a robe, her long hair damp and clinging to her shoulders As she walked into the living room, she spotted Anthony standing by the huge windows, “arm’s crossed staring out at the city. He looked lost in thought.
He turned at the sound of her footsteps.
The second he saw her, the stormy look on his face melted away, replaced by so much warmth and tenderness it made her heart skip.
“All done?” he asked, a gentle smile curving his lips. He walked over, took the towel from her hand, and handed her an iPad.
She glanced at the screen and noticed two usernames-IAMYOURMASTER and LALALA-fighting with people in the comment section. She couldn’t help but smile.
“Do you know who they are?”
Anthony asked, laughing quietly. He
started towel-drying her hair, then
leaned in, resting his chin on her shoulder and speaking a kiss at the corner of her mouth.
“It’s Grandma and Lavinia,” Charlotte said, checking the timestamps. They’d been at
it for six hours straight, firing back at anyone who dared to talk bad about her.
Anthony’s voice was low and soft.
“Grandma said you didn’t want them involved So this is how they’r showing support. He shrugged. “It kind of childish, but at least keeps them from worrying.”
Charlotte felt a wave of warmth in her chest. She lifted her face, met his adoring gaze, and reached up to touch his cheek. “Anthony, you’re amazing. So is your family.”
She knew now that someone as good as Anthony could only come from a family with strong values and so much love.
Anthony lifted her chin with his fingers, his nose brushing against hers. His voice was low, almost hypnotic. “From now on, they’re your family too.”
Charlotte stared into his eyes, her heart fluttering wildly. She suddenly wanted nothing more than to kiss him.
So she did.
