The two planes took off just five minutes apart.
“Let’s go.” Charlotte’s voice was cool, her expression unreadable as she headed for
the gate.
Jackson and Adonis trailed after her, both in a surprisingly good mood. Honestly, they couldn’t wait to see Anthony’s face when he finally ran into someone he couldn’t push around.
Four hours later, their plane landed smoothly at Frostford Airport. Outside, N Organization’s people were already waiting with a car.
As soon as Charlotte stepped out, the men bowed their heads in unison. “N.”
Charlotte nodded, climbed into the car, and leaned back against the seat, her bag at her side. Even in that brief moment, her features were striking—calm and absolutely stunning.
Jackson got behind the wheel. Adonis slid into the back next to Charlotte. Up front, a bald guy tapped away at his laptop, giving a quick rundown of the situation.
“We’ve got two hundred of our guys stuck in Frostford. The cargo on the ships is a total loss. We tried negotiating with X Organization, but they wouldn’t budge.”
On one side, Apex’s top dog. On the other, Solenia’s boss. These two powerhouses had been butting heads for years. There was no way X Organization would let them off easy now that they had the upper hand.
Charlotte’s eyes half closed, her jawline sharp. “Make a list,” she said quietly.
The bald guy blinked. “A list?”
“Compensation.” Charlotte crossed her arms, her gaze sharpening with interest. “Make X Organization pay for everything.”
He looked stunned. If anyone knew what X Organization was capable of, it was Charlotte. Usually, just getting their people back would be an achievement. But she wanted more. She wanted payback.
But then again, N’s decisions never failed.
“Yes, ma’am,” he said, nodding quickly. “I’ll get started on the numbers.”
Jackson and Adonis shared a look, barely containing their laughter. Only Anthony could manage to get in trouble twice with the same people and still act like he owned the place.
Night settled over Frostford.
In the city’s swankiest hotel, Charlotte was sprawled out on the sofa in her pajamas, one leg tucked under her, the other thrown over the armrest. She had her phone pressed to her ear.
“You don’t miss me?” Anthony’s voice was deep and a little rough, his laugh low and teasing.
Charlotte wiggled her toes, her eyes on the compensation list glowing on her iPad. Three billion. That would keep the research institute’s new projectafloat for a few more months. She drummed her fingers on the sofa, her tone almost bored. “Maybe a little.”
