Chapter 36

As soon as I closed the door behind me, I groaned.  I had to get out of there.  The mate bond was working on my end. When I touched her hand, knee, and chin, tingles showed through me and made me come alive. Her scent did everything to me, even sending my cock into a throbbing mess.  Lynx was like a horny teenager in my head, panting. “Mate, so pretty,” he chanted. “We should be with her. Make her ours.”  I frowned as I stepped into my room and closed the door. I looked back at him. “We have to wait till she knows about us,” I grumbled. “After everything she has been through with her mum, that old man in the cells, and everything else. You want us to do more damage. If we do anything now, she will clam up or, even worse, leave here without looking back.”  Lynx stared at me and growled. “She won’t leave,” he mumbled.  I stared at him for a few seconds before he sighed. “Fine,” he grunted. “We can wait, but we have to be with her more. I like her smell; she smells sweet.”  I said nothing, but I agreed with that last part of what he said. The scent was sweet—sugared raspberries. 1 I shook my head and tried to think straight, but knowing she was opposite me in the other room, I was taking everything I could to avoid her.  Over the next hour, I had a cold shower and got dressed. I sat on the bed, placed my shoes on, and opened a mind link to Zain.  “Hey man,” I said. “Did Jenny bring Leah’s things to the pack house?”  “Yeah,” he grumbled. “She wanted to talk to her. She refused to leave when I told her to go. I had to get two guards to escort her out of the building. She wants to see her.”  I frowned. I knew Jenny would act like this. Knowing that I was her mate and she was in my care got to her. I was sticking to what Leah wanted, and if she wanted to have a few days of peace, I was giving my mate.  I sighed. “Tell Josh to meet me in the office,” I murmured. “I will have a word with him about keeping his mate in check.”  “Woo…” Zain said. “I take it seeing her again made an impression.”  “You have no idea,” I gritted out.  An image of Leah flooded my mind, making Lynx whine. Shaking my head to get back on track. “Can you take Leah’s stuff to her?” I asked. “I have placed her in the room opposite mine.”  “Okay, but question?” he asked, sounding confused. “Why isn’t she in your bed?”  I growled. “Not going there yet,” I murmured. “I have to give her time. You know, being human and all.”  Zain chuckled.  “Okay, man,” he said. “Don’t get your panties in a twist.”  I felt aggravated by this whole thing.  “Me too,” Lynx grumbled as he slumped down and grunted.  Ignoring him, I continued. “Sorry,” I muttered. “It is taking everything in me not to do anything, wolf. She needs to know about us before I can do anything. It is also hard to keep Lynx in check. Every time he sees her, he wants to dry hump her.”  Zain laughed. “I can imagine,” he said and sighed. “Look, why don’t I show her around the rest of the pack house? You said Cassie only showed her around some parts and was called away to look after your mum. I can show her everywhere she can go and even stay with her till she falls asleep.”  I felt anxious about leaving her with him, but I knew he wouldn’t do anything to her. He’s my best friend.  “Yeah, that will be great,” I muttered. “Thanks.”  “No worries,” he said. “All you have to do is tell Josh what Leah wants, and hopefully, he will get through to Jenny.”  I said nothing. Part of me thought Josh would get through to her, but I know he was also having a hard time with Jenny. “Yeah,” I said. “Hopefully.”  Looking around the room, I landed on the door as I carried on talking to Zain. “I will talk to him,” I said. “You go to Leah and keep her company.”  “Sure,” he said and closed the mind link.  I looked back at Lynx, who was staring at me. “I think we should take a little visit to her mum,” I murmured. “I don’t think having her here while Leah walks around will help.”  Lynx nodded but said nothing.  I moved up and walked out of my bedroom. My eyes landed on the door opposite. It took everything in me not to go over there, knock on her door, and see her again. I listened in, but I heard nothing, only the water running.  I shook my head and walked away.  Knowing I had more chance to talk to her now that she was here was helping. I wanted to spend more time with her and get to know who she truly is as a human.  I walk down the stairs and straight out of the pack house. I opened a mind link to Josh. “Where are you and Jenny?” I asked.  “We are in the house,” he mumbled. “She wants to see Leah.”  I growled as I picked up speed and gradually started a jog to head there.  “Do not leave the house,” I muttered. “I will be there soon. I want to talk to you about what her father said and what Leah wants. Jenny needs to stay, or I am placing an alpha command on her to stay within the house till she listens.”  Josh said nothing.  Closing down the mind link, I ran over there within five minutes and knocked on the door. Josh opened and bowed.  I walked in and found Jenny sitting at the table. She turned to face me and went to get up, but I raised my hand to stop her. “Sit,” I said as I walked over to the table and sat opposite her. Her eyes never leave mine. “We need to talk, and you won’t like what I tell you.”  I told her everything about what her father told Zain and me in the cells. Josh was tensed, and Jenny was shocked. She had no idea what her father was playing at.  “What will happen to him?” she asked.  “He will stay in the cells,” I said. “Until we know what he said about outside people wanting Leah. I am placing a restrictive policy that no one is to go outside the pack, which I will do once I leave here.”  Jenny nodded, but her eyes were on me. “What about Leah?” she asked. “When can I see her?”  I stared at her and licked my bottom lip. The mere mention of Leah was stirring something deep inside me.  “As for Leah,” I said. “Give her time. She wants some space for a few days and needs to relax.”  Jenny shook her head. “Please don’t—” she said, but she stopped when Josh touched her shoulder. “Listen to him, sweetheart.”  I looked at him. He gave me a small nod. My eyes went back to Jenny, and I sighed.  “Leah hasn’t come to terms with everything,” I murmured. “She told me she needs a few days and will talk to you when she’s ready. Jenny, you must let her come to you, or you may lose her.”  Jenny said nothing. I stared at her momentarily and knew she wouldn’t take this seriously. I had to do something. I let some of my alpha aura out, which made Jenny and Josh tense.  “Jenny,” I murmured, making her look at me wide-eyed. “Listen to what I am saying, or I will command you to stay here.”  “You can’t do—” she whispered, but I shook my head to cut her off.  “Leah needs time,” I said, keeping my alpha aura at bay. “She lost her father and friends, moved into a small town that she has no idea what we are, and top it all off; her grandfather would like to see her dead.”  Jenny stiffened.  “It won’t be too long,” I murmured, placing my hand in hers. “She needs time to come to terms with a few things, and having you breathing down her neck isn’t helping. You’re her mother; I get that. My mother would be like you too, but she would also understand the need for her child to have some space.”  The mere mention of my mother coming from my mouth was foreign to me lately. I knew I had to see her soon.  Jenny’s eyes were full of tears as I gave her a gentle squeeze of her hand. “You know she is safe with me,” I said. “I won’t do anything to hurt her. She will always have Cassie, Zain, and me with her, and she wouldn’t be leaving the pack house. I will let you know when she is ready, and we can tell her about our kind.”  Jenny stared at me momentarily but released a shaky breath as she looked back at me. “You’re right,” she whispered as a tear trickled down her cheek. “I have been so selfish when it comes to her. I never put her feelings into consideration about everything. All I could think about was having her back with me.” 1 I said nothing as she looked between Josh and me, but when she stared at me, she continued. “I will stay away and let her have her space,” she said as she released a shaky breath. “But promise me you will keep her safe.”  I gave her a smile. “She’s my mate,” I murmured. “Nothing will happen to her.”  I looked at Josh, who gave me a slight nod. He seemed to go with whatever Jenny was saying. A mind link came through from him. “I got her,” he said. “I will keep her here. The boys will keep her busy, and I will come up, even stay out of sight to work if that’s what you need me to do.”  “Me and you can have a conversation later,” I said. “You stay with Jenny. She needs you.”  I closed the mind link and looked at Jenny. “I will leave,” I murmured. “I will update you regularly about what she is doing and how she is.”  Jenny nodded but looked away.  I moved up from the chair and walked away, leaving them.  I closed the door behind me and headed back to the office.  Walking into the pack house, I headed straight to the office and closed the door. I sat down and leaned back, letting out a sigh.  I needed to finish some paperwork, but all my thoughts returned to Leah. I wanted to see her.  Looking back, Lynx was asleep in my head. He had been quiet when I saw Josh and Jenny. I looked back and switched on the computer to do some work.
