Chapter 5

I watched in the distance as she walked into the house. She couldn’t see me.  I felt like a stalker, watching my own daughter. But I had no choice; I had to make sure she was okay before I left.  I was heading back to Greenwich Pack today, my pack and my home. I needed to tell my alpha what was happening.  Alpha Carson is three years older than Leah and took over the pack when his father passed away.  Alpha Carson knew the pack inside and out and always helped his father all the time when he was younger.  As the door closed, I sighed and turned on my heel.  I had a month to get my shit together and prepare for the arrival of Leah. I was scared, but I needed to do this, not just for me but for Larry and Leah.  I strolled back and headed toward the motel where my brother was waiting for me. He knew what I was doing but didn’t say anything.  He was shocked at how Leah acted, but as he said, she was like me for her temper, which wasn’t good. 3 I knew I hurt her, but it stung when Leah told her what she used to do, especially waiting for me to return home.  I needed to go home and be with my mate.  I knew I had to tell my other children, Alec and Ethan, that their sister would be coming at the end of the month.  As I approached my brother, he looked at me. “Is she home?” he asked.  I nodded.  He sighed. “She will be okay,” he said.  We both climbed into the car; it was a good few hours away, so we would arrive when it was dark.  I looked over at my brother as he started the engine. “Has Alpha Carson got hold of you?” I asked.  Julian looked at me and nodded. “He knows we are on our way back,” he said and sighed. “He wants to know what you have decided to do. Is she coming here or not?” 1 I frowned. “You could have told him yourself,” I said. “You drew up the document and had that human judge sign it.”  Julian smiled. 1 “I know,” he said. “But he wants to hear it all from you. Josh and you explained everything before you left to come here. He wasn’t thrilled that you have a child with a human, but he understood.”  I looked through the window. I hated being judged for my actions, but the only person who had the right to judge me was Leah. I hurt her.  I leaned back into the seat while Julian looked at me. “It will be all fine,” he said. “You will have to explain to her about our kind, though.”  I closed my eyes. I was dreading that part. How would I do that when she wouldn’t even talk to me?  Julian placed the radio on and started to hum to the tone being played. He drove away, and we headed out from the little town I used to call home. 1 I must have fallen asleep for a good while as Julian shook me. I glared at him. “What?” I snarled.  “We are here,” he said in an amused voice.  I looked around and realized we were back in the pack. It was quiet and in darkness, but you could see the alpha’s office light was still on.  I sighed.  “You slept all the way here,” Julian said.  I climbed out of the car, not saying anything. I didn’t sleep much when I arrived to see Leah.  I could hear silent snores in my head, letting me know my wolf was asleep. She had been pacing back and fore till we saw Leah arrive home.  “I guess I needed it,” I said. “I didn’t sleep much in that motel.”  He nodded.  “I don’t blame you,” he said.  I walked toward the pack house and headed inside. Julian followed me.  We came to Alpha Carson’s office door and knocked.  “Come in,” he shouted, and Julian opened the door.  I walked in first, then Julian.  Alpha Carson looked up and smiled. “Jenny, you’re back,” he said. “Julian.”  We both bowed.  I looked at Alpha Carson; he was doing paperwork as it was mounted on his desk.  Alpha Carson noticed where I was looking and smirked. “I had to do training with the warriors for the last few days; the paperwork gets on top of me all the time,” he said.  I nodded.  I was about to open the door when his door opened, and in walked his Beta and best friend, Zain. “Sorry,” he muttered as he walked past us and stood next to Alpha Carson.  I frowned.  Zain looked at me and smiled. “I had to deal with an issue at the school again,” he said.  Neither Alpha Carson nor Beta Zain had mates, so all the women were after them. Beta Zain was a player, but Alpha Carson was more focused on getting the pack in a good place to even think of a mate. Well, I assumed so, as I hadn’t seen him with a woman for a while.  Alpha Carson cleared his throat, which brought me back from my thoughts. “Jenny, can you tell us what you decided?” he asked.  I looked at him and nodded. “Sure, Alpha,” I said, glancing at Julian, who nodded to me.  I looked back at Alpha Carson. “My daughter has to come to live with me as I’m the only living relative she has left,” I said. “She’s seventeen,” but he interrupted me before I could finish my sentence.  “Is she human?” he asked.  I nodded.  “Okay,” he said. “I will have to suggest that we keep her away from the pack house till she knows about our kind. We can gradually get her used to it and train her in human form.”  I nodded.  “When is she coming here?” he asked, looking at me.  “In a month,” I said.  Alpha Carson looked at me and cocked his head to the side. “There’s something you haven’t told me,” he said.  I sighed. “I have to admit to you, Alpha,” I said. “Leah, my daughter, doesn’t exactly want to be here. She made that clear. I left her with her human dad to protect her, and as I found my mate.”  Alpha Carson nodded. “Do you think she will be a problem?” he asked. His eyes flicked between his eye coloring and his wolves. Something was up with him.  “I don’t know, alpha,” I said. “She lost her father in her car accident; she might be.”  Alpha Carson stared at me. “What is that smell you’re wearing?” he asked suddenly, making me look at him, puzzled. “Sorry, alpha,” I asked.  Alpha Carson shook his head. “Never mind,” he said. “Let me know when you will get her; I will place a pack link around to notify everyone about the human being on the pack grounds. It will be up to you to let everyone know who she is, but I will state she needs to be in training as soon as she finds out, so the sooner she knows about our kind, the better.” 1 I nodded.  “Julian,” Alpha Carson said, turning to look at him. “You stay behind; I need to have a word with you about something.”  Alpha Carson turned to me and smiled. “Jenny, you are free to go,” he said.  I nodded and said my goodbyes.  I walked out of the office and headed back outside.  I walked in the direction of my home.  I wanted Leah here with me, but I needed my mate.  I walked toward my home I shared with my family and walked inside. The fire was burning, and the heat hit my face as I walked toward the lounge.  Josh was sitting on the couch; he looked up from the book he was reading and smiled. “You’re home,” he said, getting up from the sofa.  I smiled as he came over to me.  He wrapped me in a hug, pulling me closer to him. His scent surrounds my heart and makes me feel at home.  My wolf purrs in my head; she missed our mate. But she was still missing our pup. 3 I did too.  All I needed right now was my family, nothing else.
