“Someone’s being extra sweet today, huh?”
Anthony’s voice was low and warm, his breath carrying that familiar, comforting scent as he leaned closer.
Charlotte’s lashes trembled, but her face stayed calm and collected.
“Does your hand hurt? You should stop.”
She didn’t reply, so Anthony dragged over a chair, sat down next to her, and gently took the pen from her fingers. “Let me handle it. If you get stuck, just ask.”
Charlotte didn’t even try to act polite. She reached into her bag and dumped out the rest of her homework, stacking it up between them.
Anthony looked at her innocent, almost angelic face and couldn’t decide whether to laugh or sigh. If Andrew ever tried to get someone else to do his homework, Anthony might actually break his legs. But with Charlotte… He couldn’t even bring himself to raise his voice, let alone anything harsher.
Besides, anyone who could ace physics clearly wasn’t slacking in her other classes.
“How’d you do on this test?” Anthony asked as he started scribbling down vocabulary.
Charlotte rested her chin near his hand, watching him struggle to cram the words onto the paper in his messy scrawl. She couldn’t help but smile. “I did better. Made some progress.”
Made some progress? That was definitely a good sign.
“Have you thought about which university you want to go to?”
Everyone knew the best university in Eldoria was The Cabinda University.
“Haven’t decided yet.”
Just mentioning it made the light in Charlotte’s eyes fade, her whole mood turning quiet and heavy.
Anthony noticed the shift right away. He paused, then reached over to gently ruffle her hair. “Go wherever you want. As long as you come back, that’s all I care about.”
He would never try to control her or make decisions for her.
Charlotte arched an eyebrow, her voice bright and teasing. “Wow, Anthony, you’re pretty confident in yourself.”
Anthony gave a slow smile, leaning in until he was almost close enough to steal a kiss. His voice came out low and magnetic. “You’re meant to be mine. Always.” Charlotte just smiled and said nothing, letting his warmth fill her from the inside out.
Three days later, before the scores were even posted, rumors were already flying. Word was, the top scorer in the whole country for this. round of exams came from
Vanguard High School.
The news spread through the senior class like wildfire. Everyone was guessing who
it could be.

famous in Cabinda, but there were

plenty of top place
provinces too. To take first pla
across the entire country? That was next-level impressive.
Charlotte and Shirley had barely stepped through the school gate when they spotted clusters of students gathered around the field, all caught up in heated discussions.
Class A was the loudest, as always.
“Olivia’s been top of the school for ages. No way it’s not her this time too!”
“Other than the top three in Class A, who else could even come close?”
“If she gets first, she can pick any university she wants in Eldoria,” a Class A girl squealed. “Hey, Olivia’s coming!”
“Olivia, you’re amazing! Number one again!”
“I’m so jealous. You can get into any university. You’re definitely picking The Cabinda University, right?”
The Cabinda University was everyone’s dream school, number one in the nation.
Olivia had heard the news earlier and
had been secretly thrilled all
morning but she kept her cools the results aren’t out yet, you guys. Don’t go spreading rumors.”
Still, she was pretty sure she’d done great.
“Come on, Olivia. Don’t be so modest. No one else at this school has a shot at first place except you.”
The more they flattered her, the bigger Olivia’s smile grew. She even threw a smug glance Charlotte’s way.
Shirley rolled her eyes and leaned in to whisper, “Charlotte, do you actually think Olivia got first?”
Charlotte lowered her eyes, a hint of a mocking smile on her lips. She didn’t even bother to answer.
