Chapter 317
The group of girls huddled together, shaking their heads with a sigh. “As long as she doesn’t come in last, it’s fine. If she does, Eleanor is going to get an earful from the other teachers.”
With the final scores still being tallied, everyone in class spent the morning on edge, barely paying attention. Well, everyone except Charlotte. She was in her own world, happy as ever, munching on snacks and sipping her drink like nothing was wrong.
When class ended, Charlotte stopped by the restroom. On her way back, she passed the teachers’ office and caught Eleanor’s voice, sounding tense and a little angry.
“Grades aren’t the only way to judge a student. Please, watch how you talk about them.”
Charlotte paused, glancing toward the open door.
“What did we even say?”
Inside, a teacher in a white dress stood by the window, her expression sharp and just a little smug. It was Ashley, the head teacher for Class A.
“We’re only stating facts, Eleanor,” Ashley replied, chin up and looking pleased with herself. “Thankfully, Olivia really pulled through and got first place in the whole country. Otherwise, Vanguard High’s reputation would’ve been ruined by Charlotte.”
The other teachers stayed silent, though their eyes gave away a hint of envy. This wasn’t just first place in the province, after all. It was first in the entire country. With the top spot going to Class A, Ashley was clearly the star of the show.
Eleanor’s face turned pale. “The scores aren’t even out yet. Charlotte might not drag down the average,” she said, voice cold.
Ashley gave a little laugh, clutching her thermos. “Anyone who can sleep through an English test isn’t going to score high, let’s be real. Eleanor, don’t get too confident. When those results come out, it won’t just be your reputation, it’ll be Vanguard High’s on the line.”
Ashley wasn’t done. “Charlotte was your choice to keep. So when things go wrong, you’ll have to answer for it.”
Eleanor looked at her, lost for words. She grabbed her book and stormed out of the office.
She’d barely made it a few steps down the hall when she saw Charlotte standing by the wall.
“Charlotte, why are you here?”
Charlotte straightened up and walked over, polite as always, head slightly bowed. “Eleanor.”
“Don’t let what that teacher said get to you,” Eleanor said, forcing a gentle smile. “Your hand’s hurt, of course it’ll affect your scores. It’s okay if this test didn’t go well. We still have two months before the entrance exams. Push yourself a bit, and you’ll
definitely improve.”
Push herself? Charlotte’s lips curled into a smile. That really wasn’t
necessary. She should wasn’t

“Okay,” Charlotte nodded, looking obedient. “I got it. I’ll work hard.”
“Go on back to class. I’ll bring you some practice sheets later.”
Charlotte pressed her lips together, almost feeling sorry.
Poor Anthony.
As she watched Charlotte walk away, Eleanor’s brows knit together and she let out a regretful sigh. If Charlotte hadn’t hurt her hand, with grades like her last physics test, getting a top score would’ve been no problem.
But now… what a shame.
