Chapter 333
Olivia was the one who had shown her some of those tricks in the first place. How could Olivia act clueless now?
Weren’t they supposed to be best friends? Nancy had done all of this to stand up for Olivia, to help her out. But now Olivia was backing away, pretending she had nothing to do with it, leaving Nancy to take the fall all by herself.
It finally hit Nancy. She’d been used as a pawn. Olivia had nudged her into going after Charlotte, and if things had worked out, Olivia would’ve been the one to benefit the most. Now that everything had blown up, Olivia was staying safe and letting Nancy face the consequences.
“Olivia, I thought we were friends. How could you do this to me?” Nancy’s voice cracked as the realization sank in, her emotions spinning out of control. “You knew everything I was planning, and you just watched me step right into this mess.”
“You’re the one who hates Charlotte. You just wanted me to get back at her for you
“Nancy.”
Olivia, already expecting this, squeezed out a couple of tears and tried to look heartbroken. “I know, this really is partly my fault… but I honestly didn’t think you’d go this far.”
“I know I messed up too. If Jim and Ashley want to expel me, I’ll accept it.”
“What does this have to do with you?” Ashley jumped in, not giving Olivia a chance to look guilty for long. “Nancy, you did something wrong and instead of owning up, you’re trying to drag someone else into it.”
“If Olivia was involved, why did the boss only name you and no one else?”
Nancy’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
“Olivia, go get ready. The admissions office will be here soon,” Ashley said, patting Olivia gently on the shoulder. “Don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault.”
Olivia wiped away her tears, mumbled a couple of words on Nancy’s behalf, and left the office.
As Nancy watched Olivia leave, she just stood there, stunned. She should have seen this coming. She should have realized what Olivia was really like. Olivia had never truly been her frend She just neede someone else to do her dirty work.
Nancy bit down hard on her lip and turned to Charlotte, panic rising in her chest. “Charlotte I was wrong. Please, I’m begging you just this once. Could you talk to Jim for me? Please don’t let them expel me.”
If she got expelled, her life would be over.
“Charlotte, please Nancy slid down to the floor, her body shaking. “I swear, I’ll never go against you again.”
Everyone’s eyes landed on Charlotte. If she spoke up for Nancy now, maybe Jim would go easier on her. But the look on Charlotte’s face gave nothing away. Eleanor frowned, not sure what Charlotte was thinking.
Just as everyone was wondering, Charlotte stood up. She brushed off her wrinkled uniform, stuck her hands in her pockets, and her face was completely cold.
“Charlotte Nancy looked up at her, desperate.
Charlotte walked over, leaned down just a little, and gave the faintest hint of a smile. “You tried to destroy me. And now you think a couple of tears and a sorry are enough to fix it all
“What, do I really seem that easy to fool?”
Looking at Charlotte’s icy
expression, Nancy suddenly remembered when Charlotte had warned her that Olivia wasn’t truly her friend. She’d thought Charlotte was just trying to stir up trouble, but now she realized Charlotte had been right all along.
The tears fell even harder.
