Before Anthony could finish the thought, the man in the hat, face hidden in shadow, spun around and pointed a gun straight at him.
Anthony’s eyes narrowed. He darted aside just in time. The bullet flew so close it brushed the air by his cheek, smacking into the wall behind and leaving a deep, ugly hole.
Through all this smoke, how could anyone shoot with that kind of aim?
A cold sharpness settled over Anthony. He drew his own gun, black eyes dark as midnight, and fired back toward the exit without a hint of hesitation.
Adonis was halfway out the door when someone grabbed a fistful of his hair and yanked him aside. The bullet missed him by inches.
He stared at the shell casing on the floor, face drained of color. “Thanks, Charlotte.” That was way too close.
Charlotte let go of his hair and glanced up at the shadowy figure on the second floor. Her gaze turned icy. X Organization. Netherworld Casino. This wasn’t over.
“Grab the man in black at the door!” Anthony’s voice cut through the chaos.
But by the time the guards picked out their target, the three of them had already jumped into a car and sped away. As they pulled off, the man in black leaned out the window and fired a few shots at the casino sign, just to prove a point.
From start to finish, the chaos lasted less than five minutes. Every security guard in the place had been mobilized, yet those three slipped away right under their noses.
Anthony stood on the second floor, short hair falling over his eyes. His handsome face was set in a cold, hard line, a chill rolling off him that kept everyone at arm’s length.
Hans caught sight of his grim look and shuddered. As far as he knew, only N Organization ever got away with stunts like this in front of Anthony. But today, some unknown guy had walked out with tensof millions and trashed billions’ worth of equipment.
“Lock down all of Apex,” Anthony snapped, tossing his gun to Hans. His voice was
sharp and cold. “I want them found in two days.”
“Yes, sir,” Hans said, not daring to argue.
In the car, Adonis was practically singing as he drove. “Charlotte, I’d say
Netherworld Casino just lost over a billion tonight, easy.”
“I heard the head of X Organization was there, too. Bet he’s going to lose his mind when he hears about this.”
He was there?
Charlotte’s eyes narrowed, remembering the man with the killer aim up on the second floor. The silhouette… it did look a little familiar.
“Good. Let him choke on it.” She gave a short laugh, pulled out her phone, and started sending the thirty five million she’d wonte different charities, splitting it up bit by bit.
“Charlotte, you’re donating all of it?” Adonis stared at the notifications, heart sinking
fast. “We really need that money, you know. Couldn’t you have kept just a little?”
“I don’t want his money. It disgusts
me.” Charlotte’s voice was cool and steady. Once the transfers went through, she relaxed into her seat
scrolled through her contacts, and
tapped on Anthony’s profile for a moment she hesitated, then exited the app and called him instead.
Anthony had been gone for two days. Maybe it was time to smooth things over.
