She blinked, half hoping it was all a dream, but the person was still there.

“Andrew, come here,” Lavinia called out, waving with a warm smile when she noticed Andrew standing there, stunned and staring at the two of them. “Don’t be shy. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
At least Andrew had the sense to bring Charlotte a coat. He was already miles ahead of that walking iceberg, Anthony.
“Ma’am Charlotte started, knowing there was a huge misunderstanding, but before she could say anything else, Lavinia cut her off.
“I get it. I’m not some old-fashioned mother, you know. I’m not about to scold you two.”
Charlotte could only think, She really doesn’t get it at all.
Andrew shuffled forward, looking completely lost as he glanced between the two women, eyebrows drawn tight in confusion.
What was even happening? Weren’t these two getting along just fine a minute ago?
“Ma’am,” Andrew greeted politely, scratching his head.
Lavinia just smiled and scooted over, making a spot right beside Charlotte. She looked up at Andrew, eyes bright. “Come, sit here.”
Andrew stared back at her, frozen.
Wait, where exactly was he supposed to sit?
He didn’t budge, his eyes darting anxiously to that little open space beside Charlotte. Just imagining what Anthony would think made his skin crawl.
There was no way he was sitting that close to Charlotte.
“I’m fine over here, really,” he tried to laugh it off, reaching for a chair nearby. But before he could even grab it, Lavinia caught his arm and pulled him straight down next to Charlotte.
“There’s plenty of space right here, isn’t there?” she said, almost like it was obvious.
Lavinia took in the sight of the two of them, both young and attractive, side by side on the couch. They should have looked perfect together, but somehow, the vibe was just… weird.
Andrew had no idea what was going on. He turned his head a little, glancing helplessly at Charlotte, then back at Lavinia and her proud smile.

Wait, Andrew liked Charlotte? And Anthony was unreliable?
Andrew felt like he’d been struck by lightning. He shot up from the couch, face going pale.
