How did she just hear Patricia call Charlotte her “granddaughter-in-law”?
Selena’s heart thudded in her chest as she looked over toward the voice. At the entrance, Patricia stood with a stern face, her eyes burning with anger as she stared straight at them. Her whole expression made it clear she was in no mood for
nonsense.
“Patricia, let me help you.” Selena’s eyes turned red as she hurried over, instinctively reaching out to steady Patricia’s hand.
Patricia jerked away without a hint of hesitation. “I don’t need help from an outsider
like you.”
Outsider? Selena’s hand hung awkwardly in the air, and her face flushed with embarrassment. No matter how close their families were, the Blairs still saw them as just that-outsiders.
Before Selena could collect herself, Patricia called out again. “Lottie, aren’t you going to help me?”
Charlotte looked up, her calm gaze landing on Patricia. She hesitated for a moment, then quietly stood and walked over. “Grandma.”
“How long has it been since you visited me?” Patricia squeezed Charlotte’s hand, patting it gently, her expression full of tenderness and affection. “It doesn’t matter if Anthony isn’t home, you still have to come see me more often. Otherwise, I’ll end up missing you terribly.”
Charlotte nodded politely. “Okay.”
Lavinia smiled from the side. “Mom, once Lottie and Anthony are married, you won’t have to worry about her not having time for you. And after a few years, when they have kids, you’ll be too busy spoiling your great-grandchildren to even chat with Lottie.”
Every word hit Melissa’s parents like a punch to the gut. Their eyes darted back and forth between Charlotte and Patricia, their faces growing paler with every second Wasn’t Charlotte supposed to be some nobody from the countryside? How had the Blair family already chosen. her for Anthony?
With the way Patricia and Lavinia treated her, there was no doubt they had fully accepted Charlotte.
“Patricia, I’m sure you’ve seen what’s been going on online.” Selena swallowed her nerves and tried to sound sincere, hoping for sympathy. No matter what, she needed the Blairs and Charlotte to let Melissa go.
Patricia let out a cold laugh. “With all the commotion, it’s impossible not to know.” She pulled Charlotte to sit beside her, her face softening as she turned to the young woman. “Your Wonderful daughter already made a scene at my birthday with a fake painting. I didn’t expect her to go even further, bullying Lottie online and trying to have her killed.”
Selena’s face turned ghostly pale. A fake painting? When did that happen? And what about the online attacks-Melissa had insisted she was framed, that it had nothing to do with her.
“Lottie may not get along with her family, but that doesn’t mean she’s alone,” Patricia said, her voice clear and strong. “Charlotte is the future Mrs. Blair. The whole Blair family is behind her. If anyone wants to see her suffer, they’ll have to go through me first.”
The hall fell silent. The air felt heavy, almost suffocating. Everyone’s eyes landed on Melissa’s parents, their looks full of contempt and disbelief.
After everything Melissa had done, how could they still have the nerve to show up here and ask Patricia for help? They had seriously miscalculated.
Patricia took a sip of water and cleared her throat before speaking again. “I’m guessing you’re here to beg for Melissa.”
“Yes.” Melissa’s father finally gave in, his attitude deflated after hearing about everything his daughter had done. “Charlotte, Patricia, Melissa truly knows she was wrong. We’re begging you for the sake of our families relationship, please let her off just this once.”
