“You’re just too nice, Janie,” Janie said, frowning.
“These little training competitions don’t mean anything. I’m not wasting my time on her. But if she tries to mess with me again It would be nothing for her to get Charlotte kicked out of Cabinda.
Olivia didn’t reply. A sly, satisfied smile flickered in her eyes.
Before they could say anything else, Leland’s surprised voice echoed from not far away. “L is back, and he wants to see Charlotte?”
Janie, who had just barely managed to convince herself everything was fine, snapped her head up.
L wanted to see Charlotte?
The winner of the sparring match was supposed to get a personal award from L after training wrapped up. Why would he want to see her now? Did he think she was that good? Was he going to ask her to join the team?
A sharp stab of jealousy hit Janie. Her biggest dreams were to join The White Whale and become a member of the International Medical Alliance. If Charlotte hadn’t shown up, maybe it would have been her catching L’s attention.
Watching Charlotte get up and follow Cotton, clearly not thrilled about it, Janie’s eyes went cold. She wasn’t about to let things go with Charlotte. Not even close.

Meanwhile, in the monitoring room at The White Whale Training Base, Anthony sat on the couch, legs crossed with casual elegance, his black coat draped perfectly. He watched the video feed, eyes soft and full of affection as he gazed at Charlotte on the screen, a faint smile on his lips.
But then, Charlotte left the frame.
Anthony’s smile vanished. He turned to Hans, his eyes suddenly icy. “Where’s Lottie going?”
“Just got word from the team. L wants to see Charlotte,” Hans reported.
L? Anthony could guess why. Lottie’s moves in the ring had been impressive. Of course the people from The White Whale would notice her.
“Good,” Anthony said as he rose, straightening his sleeves. “It’s time I met this mysterious L.”

At the command center, Charlotte walked behind Cotton, her camouflage uniform neat, her hair twisted up in a few messy bun. She looked calm, her pretty features set, her face unreadable.
“L is tough,” Cotton warned her. “When you see him, don’t be scared, and don’t say anything stupid, okay?”

“Charlotte did you hear me?” Cotton turned back, frowning at her. “Quit acting like some street punk I’m telling you, this is L, the captain of
The White Whale.”
L was someone everyone knew to fear. There was no way Charlotte didn’t know his reputation. So why wasn’t she afraid?
Charlotte just nodded, looking obedient for once.
Right then, there was a knock at the door. The heavy metal swung open and Cotton led Charlotte inside.
As soon as they entered the main hall, she spotted a tall figure in uniform, standing by the huge bulletproof windows.
“L, she’s here,” Cotton announced quietly.
At the sound, Donald turned around, his sharp, dark eyes landing on Charlotte.
She stood out right away, her posture confident, her features striking, her gaze cool and distant as she looked back at him.
For a moment, their eyes locked. A strange chill crept down L’s spine.
