Donald barely had time to process what was happening before Charlotte made her move. In a split second, her speed and technique shot up to a whole new level. The way she moved was nothing like before. Donald tried to shield himself, arms up, but Charlotte’s push was so powerful that he stumbled back a couple of steps. He crashed into his desk, sending everything on top of it crashing to the ground.
Cotton just stared, completely stunned. In The White Whale, there was almost no one who could take one of Donald’s hits, let alone push him back. Yet here was Number 91, not just holding her own, but actually forcing Donald to retreat. What was she? If he hadn’t seen it himself, Cotton would never have believed it.
He rubbed his eyes, desperate to calm down, and scooted further away until he felt safe. The way these two were going, the whole office might be trashed by the time they finished.
Meanwhile, outside the command center, a black luxury sports car rolled up to the entrance. The back door swung open and a pair of long legs in tailored black pants stepped out first. Then came a tall, striking man, his silhouette sharp against the blazing sunlight.
Anthony, dressed in a black suit that fit him perfectly, looked over the base with a cool, almost indifferent gaze. Everything about him-his posture, his features, even the way he glanced around-radiated confidence and gave off a clear warning to keep your distance.
“Anthony!” The guards at the door dipped their heads and quickly moved aside. “L is inside. Please, go on in.”
Hans had already been in touch with L’s people before they arrived.
“Anthony, Charlotte’s still inside,” Hans said, picking up his pace to keep up with Anthony’s long strides. “Word is, L’s really impressed with her skills. Wants her to join The White Whale.”
Join The White Whale? Anthony’s lips pressed into a thin line, a chill flashing in his eyes before he gave a short, cold laugh. The idea of the head of the N Organization lowering herself to be just another member here-that had to be the funniest thing he’d heard all year.
Lottie would never agree to
something like that. With her temper,
she’d refuse on the spot and walk
right out. But sted been in the
command center for a while now. Longer than he expected.

The White Whale’s command center sat at the very north end of the base,

“Anthony, L is waiting on the top floor.”
Anthony didn’t say a word. He
scanned the area, but Lottie was et
nowhere to be seen. He frowned. “Where’s the girl L brought him?” content

“She’s still up there,” the guard replied.
Half an hour on the top floor? There was no way Lottie would hang around a stranger that long. Not unless something was up.
