I’d imagined every crazy scenario, even thought Kenneth might get swindled out of his money or his heart, but I never once guessed that his so-called girlfriend was actually just his sister.
The way I went off at her earlier makes me cringe so hard now. That’s how much I regret it. Seriously, blame those gossip accounts for twisting the truth and making things worse.
Why couldn’t Kenneth just clear things up sooner? Do I even have a shot at being his girlfriend now?
I don’t know if you’ll ever be his girlfriend, but I do know one thing. Messing with the Gates family means trouble for a lot of people.

Outside the Apex Mediaworks building, a crowd of reporters was blocked by a dozen guys in black suits. Cameras were hoisted in the air, every lens focused on the four people stepping out onto the sidewalk.
Charlotte was in a simple khaki trench coat, her long wavy hair falling casually over her shoulders. Her features were delicate and stunning, and with her hands tucked into her pockets, she gave off an effortlessly cool vibe. Donald and Roger flanked her on each side, while Kenneth walked just ahead, glancing back at her every few steps.
Their looks, their style, their energy-any one of them could walk into show business and instantly outshine half the celebrities out there. It was the kind of moment that looked perfect in every photograph, and the reporters weren’t about to let it slip by.
Suddenly, camera flashes lit up the air, a storm of bright white lights going off in their faces.
Donald frowned at the glare and lifted his hand to shield Charlotte’s eyes. His voice was gentle and low. “Are your eyes okay?”
Charlotte shook her head.
A reporter couldn’t help but think, Donald’s supposed to be this tough-as-nails special forces guy, but he’s actually so gentle.
“Are you cold?” Roger glanced at the cloudy sky, then at Charlotte’s thin coat. Without a word, he shrugged off his suit jacket and drape bit over her shoulders
Another reporter’s eyes went wide with envy. The Roger in the rumors is always cold and distant. Since when does he look at someone like that?
Kenneth caught all of this and scowled, jealousy flickering in his eyes. He definitely needed to do something to make sure Charlotte noticed him too.
“Lottie,” Kenneth slowed down, reaching his hand out to her and tilting his chin up with confidence.
Before he could say anything, he caught sight of Anthony standing under a tree not far away Anthony’s tall figure was impossible to miss. He was watching them with narrowed eyes and a half-smile that was hard to read.
Even from that distance, Kenneth felt a chill crawl down his spine, icy cold and unsettling. He shivered without meaning to, then changed his mind and just patted Charlotte’s jacket instead. The words he wanted to say never made it out.
At the same moment, Charlotte’s gaze landed on Anthony too.
