Anthony watched her, unable to look away, a soft laugh slipping from his lips. “Do you want to check the security footage…”
Charlotte didn’t hesitate. “I don’t remember,” she said. Then she cradled his face in her hands, leaned in, and kissed him gently. “And now, you don’t remember either.”
Anthony smiled, a little helpless, brushing his fingers across her cheek. His voice was warm and low. “You’re right. I don’t remember anything at all.”
Just as the words left his mouth, he glanced over at 98K, the dog wagging its tail on the bed, and called out, his tone suddenly cool. “No bones for you this week.”
After breakfast, Charlotte changed the bandage on Anthony’s wound before heading out to school.
On the way, she scrolled through her phone, flipping through the news without much thought.
There were several hot topics trending.
Besides the headline about her winning the championship, her feed was flooded with a video of last night’s fireworks. The display was massive, lighting up all of Cabinda. When the fireworks faded and the words appeared in the sky, Charlotte couldn’t help but smile.
Just then, her phone rang. She answered, and a stranger’s voice greeted her.
“Charlotte, the initial funds for the twenty Hope Schools donated in your name have already been sent to the local governments of the poorest districts. Construction should be finished next year. Thank you for caring about the children in these communities.”
The call ended.
Charlotte sat in silence for a few seconds, then glanced over at Hans, who was driving.
Hans was quick to explain, “Anthony said it’s your birthday present.”

Back then, when she was trapped in that mountain village, she almost lost all hope. So now, Anthony had given her a birthday gift that meant hope for so many others.
“Oh.” Charlotte’s answer was soft. She didn’t show much expression, but a small smile tugged at her lips.

“They started looking into her research and papers. Out of ten papers, five were ghostwritten and three were straight-up copied.”
Letty had used those papers to win a ton of awards and even got a free pass into the master’s program.
“I heard Cabinda University is about to expel her!”
“Really?” Charlotte leaned back in her chair, sipping her milk, her eyes flicking up with interest. “That’s good.”
Being a doctor is supposed to be sacred. There’s no place for people like her to mess it up.
“I also heard Letty’s family has money. Her dad’s been running everywhere, trying to save her spot.”
Before Charlotte could reply, her phone buzzed with a new message.
